The Convict Hill Gang is
a gathering of Austin acoustic musicians who have come together to have
as much fun as is legally possible with the music they love. Their
music is drawn from all styles of American music - blues, country,
jazz, traditional and modern folk, plus a few songs they've written
themselves. All of the gang are veteran musicians who have been playing
for years for audiences in Texas and the rest of the country, and some
of them may already be familiar to you. One thing they all share in
common is a love of playing "just for the fun of it" - at
parties, in the campgrounds at music festivals, wherever they come
together with other like-minded pickers. In the spring of 2001 these
folks decided to bring the the joy of their informal sessions to a
wider audience, and so the Convict Hill Gang was born.
The Convict Hill Gang is available for parties, concerts, private
and public events in the central Texas area.
Lindsay Haisley - Autoharp, Trombone,
Guitar, Vocals
Lindsay has been playing for audiences in Texas and around
the country since 1974 and is known nationally as one of the
world's top autoharpists. He has performed frequently at
the Kerrville Folk Festival since 1979 and has accompanied
Peter Yarrow, David Amram and others on stage there. He has
performed as a solo at The Walnut Valley Festival in Kansas as
well as at numerous other festivals and venues around the
USA.

Karen Mal - Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals
In three short years, Karen has gone from a virtual unknown
on the Austin acoustic music scene to one of the most
sought-after performers around, both as a solo artist and as a
sideman for others. Originally from New England, Karen worked
in theatre for several years as an actor and musical composer
before moving to Austin to play music full-time. Her gentle
vocals and captivating sense of the musical moment are a
centerpiece of every Convict Hill Gang performance.

Nancy Fly - Piano,
Accordion, Fiddle, Vocals
Nancy brings a unique virtuosity to the Convict Hill Gang.
Her fiddle style brings to mind Peter Stampfel of the Holy
Modal Rounders with whom she used to play. Her humor and
sense of fun come through clearly in her vocals, where she
excels in folk blues and traditional music.

Seymour Guenther - Bass, Vocals
Seymour is an extraordinarily multi-talented musician whom
we're lucky to have with is since he's much in demand
by other bands. Seymour has toured in Europe and the US and has
played with Danny Santos, Slaid Cleaves and the Dr. Zog
Band.
